Charles George

Heiltsuk artist, Charles George, is originally from Bella Bella but now lives locally on the Saanich Peninsula.

Charles is an accomplished wood carver working with mostly traditional forms, but in his own personal style.
While clearly his own unique representation of his culture, his work presents with a strong emphasis on his peoples’ beliefs, as well as his own, however, in a contemporary context.

The artist's work is the result of a lifetime of experience working with the symbols, tools and materials that form the basis of indigenous art found throughout the Pacific Northwest, of what we now call North America.
